The trophy is ready, schedules finalized, and hospitality plans nearly complete. A full field of 16 players is confirmed, including seven travelling from outside Victoria. Several will be competing in a sanctioned GC event for the first time, eager to build their skills. Strong regional and local commitment shows real momentum for competitive croquet, and we’re ready to begin. Superb Finish for Gopal in Toronto Gopal Gowda competed in the croquet nationals in Toronto where he had a terrific tournament, going 5-1 in the preliminary rounds before falling in the quarterfinals. Overall an outstanding results Gopal, congratulations. Croquet Women’s Doubles – July 7 - Final Results Twelve players—six experienced and six novices—played five balanced rounds in perfect weather. Club Events and News Canada Day A massive turnout for the annual Canada Day celebrations at the club. More than 60 people took part in the festivities. Thanks so much to Kathy, Anita and Annie in hospitality, Bryan and Sandy on the BBQ, Lucille at the front door, Shirley and Amber for clubhouse set up, Bobbi-Jean and Justin for the awesome greens and to Keith, Sandy and Mike for setting up bowls and croquet greens. Foyer Ipad Now Live You will notice a new addition to the foyer; the Ipad - generously donated by Paula - is now live. President Mike Pennock declares "Season Open" May 09, 2026 - Opening Day is quickly approaching, and everyone is looking forward to officially getting out on the greens.to play. Festivities will be starting at 1:00 pm on the Upper Green with the arrival of the Mayor. The National Anthem will be sung. A club team will assemble to play a 4 ended game against the Mayor's team, to contest the Challenger Cup. Bowlers will be assigned teams to play 2 hours of games. Notice of Passing-Pierre Pomerleau April 9, 2026 The club marks the passing of Pierre Pomerleau, following a short battle with Cancer. Pierre was a long-term fixture of our community, known for his constant presence and participation in both lawn bowling and croquet. A true "character" on the greens, he was recognized by members for his uncompromising style and his singular approach to the games he played. His departure concludes a notable period of involvement in our club's sporting activities. We extend our condolences to the Pomerleau Family, and Pierrre's loved ones and friends. Urban Development Institute on the Green (sort of) While the weather was largely uncooperative the team at Urban Developement Institute soldiered through and based on the feedback still thoroughly enjoyed their time at the club. We consider them family as this is the fifth year in a row they've rented the club. Chandos on the Green Chandos Construction enjoyed a couple of hours of Croquet with us last night. Brandi Prevails in Epic Finale Brandi Biggar defeated Maia Kozak 15-13 in an epic final to win the Women's Novice Singles Championship . Each player traded the lead back and forth several times during the game but in the end it was Brandi that prevailed. In the third place game Nisha defeated Shirley. There were a total of 8 women vying for the title August 8 and 9th, this marks the first time in recent memory that the number of entries required the tournament to be played over 2 days . Brandi will now represent the club at the Novice BSI August 29 and 30 at Central Saanich. Scott Simmons Wins Men's Novice! Scott Simmons went undefeated to win the Men's Novice Championship on Saturday sealing his victory after a come from behind victory over Denis Huneau in the 3rd match. As Scott is uavailable for the BSI Men's Novice tournament, Andrew Vaughan who placed 2nd overall has agreed to represent the club on September 12-13 at Vic West . Congrats to Constantin, Sandy, Keith Winners of the Ashford Trophy - Open Mixed Triples held at Burnside LBC. Barb and Bryan Win Club Mixed Pairs After three consecutive evenings of exceptional play, the club’s inaugural Mixed Pairs Championship wrapped up with a pair of dramatic finishes. Barb Marriott and Bryan McColl took home the title in a 16–15 nail-biter against Joe and Susan Schiphorst . Meanwhile, Don Allan and Libby Weiser captured third place in another thriller, edging out Nick Bantock and Bobbi-Jean Charlton 15–14. Congratulations to all our competitors! Bobbi-Jean Earns Silver and a Nationals Berth Bobbi-Jean Charlton earned a hard fought second place finish at the Bowls BC Provincial Playdowns at Granville Park losing in a tiebreaker to Stanley Park's Gabrielle Ladoudeur. As a result of her second place finish however, Bobbi-Jean will now participate in the nationals taking place in North Vancouver August 17-23. Congratulations Bobbi-Jean! Don and Geoff Win Totem Pairs On a gorgeous day at VBCC, Don Allan and Geoff Poulton went undefeated to win the Totem Scotch Pairs tournament. This long running club tournament provided excellent conditions and superb bowling. Well done to the 2nd place winners Keith and Sandy and to the 3rd place team of Barb and Paula. Huge thanks to Dennis and Amber for another terrificly well organized event. Don Allan Men's Champ Don won the Men's Club Singles Championship the hard way. After finishing 8th in the round robin, he beat the first place finisher Gopal Gowda in the quarters, then the 2nd place finisher Dennis Delorme in the semi's and then the 4th place finisher (and new bowler!) James Strickland in the final (hats off to James who played brilliantly). Don now has his name engraved on the trophy for a third time having won it in 2016 and 2017. In the third place game it was Bryan McColl beating Dennis Delorme. A terrific three days of very high calibre bowling! Paula Parkinson Crowned Women's Champ Wednesday evening under perfect conditions, Paula Parkinson capped off an incredible run by winning the Women's Club Singles Championship with a win over Libby Weiser. Paula went undefeated over three nights and will have her name back on the trophy for the second time, having last won it in 2017. Totem Pairs and NEW Mixed Pairs Coming! The iconic Totem Scotch Pairs tournament is back for another year. This is a one-day gender neutral fun social tournament. And introducing the Mixed Pairs Club Championship .
