Ming and Leslie WIN the Wilkerson In what will go down as one of the best games of the year, Barry Ming and Al Leslie beat Jack Robertson and Gary Paugh 14-12 in an extra end to win the Wilkerson Men's Pairs. The exemplary shot making was on display throughout the contest as each team traded one epic shot after another. In the end it was an umpires measure that determined the winner. The game was livestreamed and can be watched here Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships! The Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships are open to ANY bowler and this year they are being played at the North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club August 16-23. Men's and women's - singles, pairs, fours - will all be contested. It has been years since we've had the nationals this close to home. Find out more here or if you think you are up to the challenge - registration is now open! Sharpen your Bowls Skills In February I visited Frankston, a town near Melbourne in Australia. The bowls club was very welcoming and allowed me to join their training sessions. I would like to pass on what I learned. Join me, Paula, and have some fun trying nearly every shot in the game of bowls. Don and Gopal Finish Third The South Island Men's Pairs BSI tournament took place May 30 and 31st at Central Saanich LBC. A total of 16 pairs teams took part and our own Don Allan and Gopal Gowda placed third narrowly losing their match against Brent Jansen and Steve Foster. A great result Don and Gopal! Club Championship Registration NOW OPEN The VBCC Men's and Women's Singles Championships are now open for registrations . Our goal for this tournament is to re-establish the prestige that should come from winning this tournament. The winner will have the opportunity to represent VBCC at the Bowls BC Provincial Championships (expenses of up to $350 per player will be reimbursed). Peace Findlay a Smash Success Sunday was trophy day at the Peace Findlay Men's Singles bowls tournament . We had glorious weather and the games throughout the weekend were fantastic capped by the Peace, Findlay and Coast Cup finals. In the "C" event - Coast Cup - Raoul Wiart defeated Rob McArthur 18-16 ; the "B" event - The Findlay - was won by VBCC's Constantin Botea who came out on top over Chris Dodd 18-15 and the "A" final was an epic battle between Harry Walker and Mark Planiden, Mark outlasted Harry 18-14 (Mark went undefeated 5-0 on the weekend). Peace Findlay Tournament Continues There was some fantastic lawn bowling Satuday at the club as the Peace Findlay Men's Singles tournament kicked off with 24 players. At the end of day 1 twelve players are left standing including four players from VBCC - Don Allan, Keith Newhouse, Constantin Botea and Geoff Poulton . The semi-finals for the A, B and C brackets get underway at 10am Sunday; the finals are at noon on the upper green. Thursday Night Competitive Training - Cancelled Elevate your game this season with our new Competitive Training series starting Thursday, May 28 . Running from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM for six consecutive weeks, these sessions are open to both men and women looking to sharpen their edge. Each week features focused discussions on strategy and tactics, high-level shot-making, and specialized drills. Free for all VBCC members , while members of other clubs are welcome to join for a $20 fee . 16 players only . Don't miss this chance to take your competitive play to the next level. You can browse the club website, view the calendar, register for tournaments or events and guests can register for drop-in sessions. President Mike Pennock declares "Season Open" May 09, 2026 - Opening Day is quickly approaching, and everyone is looking forward to officially getting out on the greens.to play. Festivities will be starting at 1:00 pm on the Upper Green with the arrival of the Mayor. The National Anthem will be sung. A club team will assemble to play a 4 ended game against the Mayor's team, to contest the Challenger Cup. Bowlers will be assigned teams to play 2 hours of games. Croquet players will move to lower green to commence their play. At 3:15 pm, the bell is rung, and all participants are welcomed to the clubhouse for refreshments COME JOIN US ON MAY 9th!!!! More... Club Hosted Tournaments Men's and Women's Club Singles Championship With a renewed emphasis on the importance of our club championships this prestigious tournament has moved up in the club calendar and will be played on three consecutive weeknights June 22-24 . The winners of this tournament will be encouraged to enter the men's and women's singles Bowls BC provincial playdowns as the VBCC representatives. Conditions of Play and Registration Tournament Start: June 22, 2026 Totem Pairs Another long running tournament in the club. Conditions of Play and Registration Tournament Start: July 9, 2026 Mixed Pairs Club Championship A new tournament at the club that will be played over three weeknights. Along with the club singles championship the mixed pairs club championship will put youtr skills to the test. The winners of this tournament will be encouraged to represent the club at the Bowls BC mixed pairs provincial playdowns . Conditions of Play and Registration Tournament Start: July 13, 2026 Novice Singles Always a favourite at the club, the men's and women's club novice tournament is built for new players to gain experience in a tournament setting. The winner's will represent our club at the regional BSI novice tournament Conditions of Play and Registration Tournament Start: August 8, 2026 Simmons Cup Women's Triples BSI One of the classic tournaments at the club, the Simmons brings together the best women's triples teams from across the region. Conditions of Play and Registration Tournament Start: August 11, 2026 Knut Berg The legedary Knut Berg was a larger than life member at the club. The tournament is in his memory and has had a long running history. Cuthroat triples is a SOCIAL league that features three players each playing for points. Points are awarded for the first four bowls closest to the jack where the closest bowl earns 4pts, second closest 3pts, third closest 2pts and the fourth closest 1pt; each end is worth 10pts. It's a great format! Notice of Passing-Pierre Pomerleau April 9, 2026 The club marks the passing of Pierre Pomerleau, following a short battle with Cancer. Pierre was a long-term fixture of our community, known for his constant presence and participation in both lawn bowling and croquet. A true "character" on the greens, he was recognized by members for his uncompromising style and his singular approach to the games he played. His departure concludes a notable period of involvement in our club's sporting activities. We extend our condolences to the Pomerleau Family, and Pierrre's loved ones and friends.
