Winners of the Ashford Trophy - Open Mixed Triples held at Burnside LBC.

Barb and Bryan Win Club Mixed Pairs
After three consecutive evenings of exceptional play, the club’s inaugural Mixed Pairs Championship wrapped up with a pair of dramatic finishes. Barb Marriott and Bryan McColl took home the title in a 16–15 nail-biter against Joe and Susan Schiphorst. Meanwhile, Don Allan and Libby Weiser captured third place in another thriller, edging out Nick Bantock and Bobbi-Jean Charlton 15–14. Congratulations to all our competitors! Barb and Bryan are holding the Comrade Doubles trophy first awarded in 1932 and last awarded in 2004.

All Systems Go for the Western Canada Open Croquet
VBCC and Oak Bay are set to host the Western Canada Open Golf Croquet Championship from August 21–24, 2026. The trophy is ready, schedules finalized, and hospitality plans nearly complete. A full field of 16 players is confirmed, including seven travelling from outside Victoria. Several will be competing in a sanctioned GC event for the first time, eager to build their skills. Strong regional and local commitment shows real momentum for competitive croquet, and we’re ready to begin.

The E-Mallet - August Issue-is Ready
I’m sharing the August E‑Mallet, which we’re presenting this issue in a new flipbook format to improve readability on phones, tablets, and computers. The traditional PDF link is also attached for anyone who prefers it.
This issue covers many completed croquet tournaments and upcoming events.
I’d welcome any thoughts on how the new format works for you.

Canada Day
A massive turnout for the annual Canada Day celebrations at the club. More than 60 people took part in the festivities. Thanks so much to Kathy, Anita and Annie in hospitality, Bryan and Sandy on the BBQ, Lucille at the front door, Shirley and Amber for clubhouse set up, Bobbi-Jean and Justin for the awesome greens and to Keith, Sandy and Mike for setting up bowls and croquet greens.

Foyer Ipad Now Live
You will notice a new addition to the foyer; the Ipad - generously donated by Paula - is now live. You can browse the club website, view the calendar, register for tournaments or events and guests can register for drop-in sessions.

City of Victoria IT Department on the Green
A big thank you to the City of Victoria IT Department for renting out our facility recently. They are such a wonderful group, and they even helped a staff member celebrate their 50th birthday during their visit! We're already looking forward to hosting you all again next year.

Urban Development Institute on the Green (sort of)
While the weather was largely uncooperative the team at Urban Developement Institute soldiered through and based on the feedback still thoroughly enjoyed their time at the club. We consider them family as this is the fifth year in a row they've rented the club.
